Tell your story! Family stories wanted for the DHF Newsletter.Remember the time we sat around the supper table and laughed at stories about this uncle or that aunt? How Sister Ignase exclaimed to Uncle Adelard about Heaven's chariots of gold -- "They were gold Adelard! Real gold!" How Uncle Art witched wells with a metal rod once used to measure gas in a bulk storage tank? How Uncle Felix built the house trailer in which he moved his family to Oregon? How a couple of nephews once fiddled with the steering mechanism on Uncle Lewie's tractor so that the front wheels turned just opposite the way the Uncle Lewie wanted to go? Remember how so many of the uncles, speaking French as their first language, said "turdy" for "thirty" and "tree" for "three?"One of the jobs of the Durand Heritage Foundation is to collect and preserve some of our favorite family stories -- not just the substance, but the sound and flavor too -- our oral history, if you will. Preseving such stories will help lend meaning to our family history for the next generation and those who come after. We'd like to hear from you. We don't need works of art. Just jot down a sentence or two and send it to one of us, or send a note in your Christmas card saying, "Hey, I've got a good story! Give me a call." Our job is to follow up.
